Conference Recap: 2011 RVAA Executive Conference


 

Where else would you be able to conduct business with your distributor, supplier and agent associates in one venue while enjoying beautiful California?

Hyatt Huntington Beach Waterfront Resort hosted their second successful RVAA Executive Conference Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, 2011.  The RVAA Aftermarket Association has again provided its members with this very unique opportunity to conduct face to face business meetings with all our aftermarket partners over a three day period. The established 20 minute meeting format has proven successful and allowed our members to meet with and discuss marketing topics, catalogs, new products and strategies for a successful year to come.  These meeting were scheduled over two and a half days allowing the opportunity for the suppliers and agents to meet with the distributors.  Approximate attendance for this year is over 200 participants from over 100 companies.

The annual RVAA Golf Day was held at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club.    43 golfers took advantage of this day of fun on the course joining old friends and meeting new ones.  Results from the day had the “threesome” of Aaron Engberg (Wineguard), Bill Williams (Walex) and Jeff Dixon (Central Trailer) finishing in first place.

All attendees were welcomed to Huntington Beach during an opening reception held at the Lighthouse Courtyard of the Hyatt.  This outdoor venue allowed everyone to unwind from their day of golf or travel to California.  Food and beverage flowed through the crowd along with the anticipation of the business to follow over the next few days.  Our 19 new members were additionally welcomed to the association during a new member’s orientation prior to this evening social event (18 attended the conference).  Following the get together members were encouraged to enjoy the night life that Huntington Beach has to offer.

The morning Breakfast Buffets provided another opportunity to not only refuel for the day but to casually meet with many of the people we do business or meet someone new over coffee.

Wednesday’s lunch segment was divided into categories: Distributor, Supplier, Agent and Service Members.  Again this is another unique opportunity to meet with all the other members who share your particular specialization in the RV industry and discuss relevant association topics and best practices initiatives.

The Annual Membership Business and Awards Luncheon on Thursday brought all attendees together again to be updated on the business reports from all divisions of the association along with some well deserved accolades.  This year two long time RVAA members were honored with the RVAA’s Supplier Performance Analysis Award.  Valterra Products and Camco Manufacturing were each recognized with this well deserved award. Pier Adams presented the prestigious President’s Award to Sylvia Koppin of Aim Wholesale. Our appreciation was extended to Piar Adams our outgoing president who led the association through many exciting changes over the last few years.  Our new executive was announced and two new board members introduced.  With a strong executive and board in place, we are excited as we move forward to further build the association.

Pete’s Sunset Grill was the setting for the closing reception and did not disappoint.  A final get together for all new and old members to visit and unwind after a great day of business was in order.  Once more food and beverage under the California sunset made for an enjoyable evening for all.

Although a lot of serious business was taken care of over this time, our members did not go away without having enjoyed themselves.  Many attendees, myself included, took this opportunity to bring my family along for a much deserved few days’ relaxation.  As members of the RV Industry we not only know how to work hard but we also know how to have some fun. The Hyatt provided us with a wonderful venue to be both productive and relaxed at the same time.  The California sun, beach and weather provided a perfect backdrop for our conference.  I would like to thank the Hyatt and the Conference organizers for their job well done.  As we all return to our business as usual we should definitely be marking our next year’s calendar for another great conference Aug. 20 – 24, 2012 at the Omni Hotel in Chicago!
